Interim General Management as a driver of growth and professional development for talent in the pharmaceutical sector
A 7-month project to lead the organisation’s scaling and transform its corporate culture towards high performance
Client and Sector: Our client, a leading company in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sector with operations in Madrid (Spain), was at a crucial stage in its planned growth and business expansion.
The Situation / Need (The Pain):
The organisation was facing a critical challenge: the urgent need to adapt its organisational structure and workforce to a new scale of business. It required immediate executive leadership with a proven track record (Accountability), capable of making decisions and implementing a plan for cultural and organisational transformation from day one.
The EPUNTO Approach and Solution (The Methodology): In less than two weeks, and in collaboration with our partners at the Valtus Alliance to manage this international assignment, EPUNTO deployed an Interim Manager from our pool of executive talent to take on the role of Managing Director.
For seven months, the executive joined the management committee with clear objectives: to lead the adaptation of the organisational structure to the new growth plan and to develop a high-performance culture. The project focused on ensuring an optimal working environment, fostering motivation and aligning the team with the company’s new scale by instilling a performance mindset through executive coaching and mentoring.
Frequently asked questions
What was the main challenge in this project?
The challenge was to lead the organisation through a phase of rapid growth, adapting the structure and corporate culture to the new scale of the business. A ‘plug-and-play’ executive was needed who could deliver immediate solutions without a learning curve.
Why was an interim manager chosen rather than a traditional recruitment process?
Speed and specialisation were critical. The client could not wait the 6–9 months required by a standard selection process, as it needed to secure leadership to drive growth immediately. High-calibre talent was required to deliver measurable results in the short term (7 months), whilst also serving as a stopgap until a permanent executive could be appointed.
What was the most significant impact during the first 90 days?
In the first quarter, our Interim Manager succeeded in stabilising the organisation, defining a new structure tailored to growth and aligning the management team with the new ‘performance mindset’ culture, thereby laying the foundations for the transformation.
How did EPUNTO ensure the transfer of knowledge at the end of the mission?
Our methodology includes a structured exit plan. As this was a ‘bridge’ assignment, the Interim Manager documented the new organisational processes and played an active role in the onboarding and handover of responsibilities to the permanent successor, ensuring that the improvements were fully sustainable.
What was the key differentiating factor that EPUNTO brought to this solution?
The speed of onboarding (less than two weeks) and our international reach. As members of the Valtus Alliance, we handled this cross-border requirement with complete ease, selecting a Managing Director who not only had proven technical expertise but also the soft skills required to lead a cultural transformation in a highly demanding environment.
