Transformation of financial controlling at a leading natural cosmetics company.
A three-month strategic project to optimise profitability analysis and ensure corporate reporting by the Spanish subsidiary.
Client and Sector: Our client, a prestigious international company and market leader in the cosmetics and personal care sector, with its Spanish subsidiary based in Catalonia, was undergoing a phase of exponential growth. Faced with a paradigm shift in consumer behaviour towards natural and sustainable products, the organisation urgently needed to strengthen its management control structure to support this growth with data-driven decisions.
The Situation / Need (The Pain Point): The organisation was facing a critical challenge: the need to professionalise the Controlling and Business Analysis department in order to support the commercial management team and ensure smooth communication with the head office in France. Immediate executive leadership was required, with a highly analytical profile and the ability to engage with international stakeholders, capable of transforming financial information into business intelligence from day one.
The EPUNTO Approach and Solution (The Methodology):
EPUNTO, with the agility that characterises our method, brought in an Interim CFO / Head of Controlling with over 15 years’ experience in multinational environments. For three months, the executive integrated into the organisation, reporting directly to the General Management in Spain.
Under the supervision and mentorship of Patricio Gil Olmedo, Partner at EPUNTO, the project focused on:
Optimisation of Reporting: Implementation of tools for monitoring results and comprehensive scorecards.
Profitability Analysis: In-depth assessment of margins by channel and the efficiency of sales efforts.
Budget Monitoring: Analysis of variances and proposals for corrective measures in real time, ensuring alignment with the group’s financial objectives.
Frequently asked questions
What was the main challenge in this project?
The challenge was to professionalise management control in a high-growth environment characterised by high commercial complexity. A ‘plug-and-play’ executive was needed to provide immediate financial visibility to support the sales strategy and ensure compliance with international reporting standards.
Why was an interim manager chosen rather than a traditional consultancy firm?
Speed was critical to ensure the subsidiary’s expansion did not slow down. The client needed high-calibre talent with strategic vision and language skills who could deliver measurable results within three months – something a standard recruitment process would not have been able to provide in time.
What was the most significant impact during the first 90 days?
During this period, our Interim Manager succeeded in stabilising the reporting system to the parent company in France and implementing a commercial profitability analysis model that enabled the identification of critical deviations, proposing adjustments that optimised the use of marketing and sales resources.
How did EPUNTO ensure the transfer of knowledge at the end of the mission?
Our methodology involved developing tools for financial controlling and documenting financial processes. The Interim Manager ensured that the in-house team was able to maintain the new standards for data analysis and dashboards, thereby guaranteeing the sustainability of the operational improvements.
What unique feature did EPUNTO bring to this solution?
We take great care in selecting candidates with a strong international background and an innovative mindset. We do not simply provide a finance specialist, but a Business Partner capable of engaging with all levels of the organisation and transforming complex data into profitable growth strategies.
