Acting CCO as a driving force for international business development in the BPO and Customer Experience sector
A 20-month project to lead business expansion in Latin America and ensure commercial stability in a highly volatile environment.
Client and Sector: Our client, a Spanish-based multinational and leader in the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) and Customer Experience sectors, with a strong global presence, needed to boost its subsidiary in Argentina. The company was in a strategic phase of market expansion, managing critical operations between its parent company in Spain and local operations in South America.
The Situation / Need: The challenge was twofold. On the one hand, there was an urgent need to develop the business and open new accounts in a highly competitive local market. On the other, the economic and political climate in Argentina presented a scenario of unforeseen instability. What was initially envisaged as a short-term tactical intervention evolved into a need for sustained leadership to navigate the uncertainty. The company could not afford a power vacuum or a learning curve; it needed a senior executive capable of interpreting the European corporate strategy and successfully implementing it within the Argentine context.
The EPUNTO Approach and Solution: EPUNTO immediately brought in an Interim CCO (Chief Commercial Officer) with transnational management experience. The executive took charge of Business Development with a full accountability assignment.
Given the volatility of the local environment, EPUNTO’s value proposition stood out for its flexibility: the interim manager not only met the initial market entry objectives but also extended his assignment to 20 months. During this period, he became the cornerstone of stability for the subsidiary, shielding the commercial strategy from external uncertainty and ensuring operational continuity until the business had consolidated sufficiently to allow for an orderly transition.
Frequently asked questions
What was the main challenge in this project?
The main challenge was strategic adaptability. The aim of developing the business in Argentina had to be achieved against a backdrop of severe local economic instability. An executive was required who possessed the technical expertise to finalise commercial agreements and the emotional intelligence to manage uncertainty and keep the local team aligned with the head office in Spain.
Why was a Senior Advisor (Interim) chosen rather than a traditional consultancy firm?
The speed of implementation and contractual flexibility were decisive factors. In a volatile environment, the client needed premium talent who could start immediately (‘plug and play’) without assuming the long-term employment risk associated with a permanent contract from day one. The interim management model allowed the collaboration to be extended on a month-by-month basis for up to 20 months, strictly adapting to the realities of the business.
What was the most significant impact during the first 90 days?
Beyond the sales figures, the greatest achievement was the sustainability of the business during times of crisis. Our Interim Manager succeeded in professionalising the sales department and securing the client portfolio at a time when the competition was pulling back, turning a market threat into an opportunity for the brand to consolidate its position.
How did EPUNTO ensure the transfer of knowledge at the end of the mission?
After 20 months in the role, the handover was not abrupt. Our methodology includes a structured handover plan. The interim manager documented the business processes, consolidated the sales pipeline and mentored the local team, ensuring that, following his departure, the business would continue to run just as efficiently.
What unique feature did EPUNTO bring to this solution?
The ability to provide long-term support. Whilst we specialise in rapid-response assignments, this case demonstrates our ability for project management (Long-Term Interim). We provided a highly qualified executive who, backed by EPUNTO’s partners, offered the client the reassurance of having a reliable ‘executive arm’ on the other side of the Atlantic.
