Strategic consultancy on AI and Agile for a leading organisation in the financial sector
A 13-month project to mitigate a strategic technological risk and align the organisation with an agile culture.
Client and Sector: Our client, a leading organisation in the financial sector with operations in Spain, was at the point of embarking on a technology project of immense strategic importance.
The Situation / Need (The Pain): The organisation was facing a critical challenge: the need to manage the high risk associated with this technology project and the urgency of shifting the project management culture away from traditional (waterfall) methodologies towards an agile approach. Senior management required immediate executive advice from someone with proven experience (Accountability), capable of guiding strategic decisions (what, how, with whom and when) and ensuring the project’s viability.
The EPUNTO Approach and Solution (The Methodology): Within less than two weeks, EPUNTO engaged a Senior Advisor from our pool of executive talent to take on the role of Strategic Advisor on digital transformation, AI and Agile Methodologies.
For 13 months, the executive worked closely with the company to advise senior management and the project team directly, with clear objectives: to reduce exposure to technological risk and to act as a coach for the implementation of new agile philosophies.
Under the supervision and mentorship of Emilio del Prado, a Partner at EPUNTO, the project focused on defining the action roadmap, evaluating the most sophisticated technological solutions (including AI) and ensuring an effective and sustainable shift in mindset amongst the teams.
Frequently asked questions
What was the main challenge in this project?
The challenge was to mitigate the risk associated with a technology project critical to the business whilst, at the same time, driving a profound cultural transformation towards agile methodologies. A ‘plug-and-play’ executive was needed to provide an external, expert and independent perspective to validate decision-making at the highest level.
Why was a Senior Advisor (Interim) chosen rather than a traditional consultancy firm?
Speed and specialisation were critical. The organisation did not need a consultancy report, but rather a top-level executive (Senior Advisor) who would be fully integrated into day-to-day operations to advise senior management on a strategic, time-bound project (13 months). They were looking for an expert who would take ownership and be actively involved in decision-making.
What was the most significant impact during the first 90 days?
In the first quarter, our Senior Advisor succeeded in establishing the decision-making framework for senior management, defining the roadmap for technological risk mitigation and launching the first sprints using agile methodology with the project team, thereby laying the foundations for the digital transformation and ensuring it stays on course.
How did EPUNTO ensure the transfer of knowledge at the end of the mission?
Our methodology includes a structured exit plan. The Senior Advisor acted as a coach and mentor to the in-house team and senior management, guiding them through the new agile working philosophy, whilst documenting the new project governance model to ensure the long-term sustainability of the improvements and the organisation’s autonomy.
What unique feature did EPUNTO bring to this solution?
The speed of onboarding (less than two weeks) and the precision in selecting the executive. We provided a Senior Advisor in Digital Transformation and AI who not only had proven technical expertise in complex technology projects and AI solutions, but also the soft skills required to advise senior management and navigate the company’s cultural change.
